PCF: Automatic calculation of freight emissions

With the new feature, the Climate Hub automatically calculates freight emissions for weight-based activities – from the origin of the material to the location where it is used.

What’s new:

• Enter the origin, destination, and freight weight – the route and mode of transport are determined automatically.
• The calculation also takes multimodal transport and transshipment points into account.
• The calculated CO₂e emissions are automatically created as a transport activity and linked to the original activity.
• The “Freight Calculation” pop-up provides a complete breakdown of the route, including individual legs, distances, and allocated emissions.
  
  
• Changes to the source activity automatically trigger a recalculation.

The calculation is based on Climatiq’s Intermodal Freight Module and the GLEC emission factors used within it.

Please note: The automatic freight calculation populates the emission factor excluding biogenic CO₂ uptake. For a complete breakdown of ISO-, PACT-, and Catena-X-compliant emission factors, we recommend using the activity-based emission factor search with an ecoinvent factor.
