# PCF: Transition to CO2e including biogenic CO2 (ISO 14067)

## September 28th, 2026

To ensure compliance with the **ISO 14067** standard, the Product Carbon Footprint calculation has been updated to use **emission values including biogenic CO₂**.

### Updated Emission Factor Names

The emission factor names have been updated:

- **Factor excluding biogenic CO₂ uptake** → **Factor excluding biogenic CO₂**
- **Factor including biogenic CO₂ uptake** → **Factor including biogenic CO₂**

Both factors now represent the respective **total emission factors**. For **ISO 14067-compliant calculations**, the value **including biogenic CO₂** is the relevant value. The partial emission factors remain unchanged. However, they were previously referred to asadditional emission factors. Their values and calculation remain the same; only the terminology has been updated to distinguish them clearly from the total emission factors.

### Calculations and Results

All relevant analyses and result displays have been updated to use **values including biogenic CO₂**. This applies to the **Data Tab**, the **Analysis Tab including the Balance Table**, and the **PDF Report**.

The displayed and calculated CO₂e values are based on the emission factor **including biogenic CO₂** and are used throughout the Product Carbon Footprint calculation and reporting.

### Fallback Values

If no emission factor including biogenic CO₂ is available for an activity, the corresponding value excluding biogenic CO₂ is used as a fallback and included in the total.

Please note that the use of a **fallback value** may result in a calculation that **deviates from the fully ISO 14067-compliant methodology**. The analysis now also provides transparency on how many values including and excluding biogenic CO₂ were used in the calculation.

For a fully standards-compliant assessment, please provide the corresponding emission factor including biogenic CO₂or assign an ecoinvent factor. In this case, the required value will be populated automatically.
