CCF: More transparency for emission factors – step-by-step enhancement of the structure
March 5th, 2026
Extension of Input Fields for Factors (Scope 1 & Scope 2)
For certification purposes and to improve traceability, we are gradually enhancing the input fields for emission factors.
As a first step, the input forms in Scope 1 and Scope 2 (custom activity) have been extended. The following additional fields are now available:
-
Source details
for a more precise description of the source, e.g. by specifying versions -
Name of factor from source
original name of the emission factor as stated in the referenced source -
Source year
publication or reference year of the data source used -
System boundary for direct emissions
specification of the underlying accounting boundary, e.g. Combustion, Tank-to-Wheel, or comparable distinctions -
System boundary for upstream emissions
specification of the underlying accounting boundary, e.g. Well-to-Tank, upstream process chains, or comparable distinctions -
Country/Region
geographical area for which the emission factor is representative
These enhancements increase transparency, auditability, and documentation quality.
Terminology Updates
To ensure consistent terminology, the following terms have been updated in the Climate Hub:
-
LCA Activity in Scope 3 is now called System boundary
-
Kind is now called Name
-
Name from database is now called Name of factor form source
Outlook
In the next steps, we plan to roll out the new structure to the following areas:
-
Scope 2 Smart Energy Module
-
Scope 3 Factors
-
Predefined Factors
-
Display of the additional information in the PDF report
The goal is to ensure consistent, end-to-end, and audit-proof documentation across all scopes and output formats.
