If you have received a CBAM application from one of your clients and need help finding the necessary steps to complete an application, please refer to this article first: How do I complete requests from my customers?
By sending you a CBAM request, your client wants you to answer some questions about the Border Carbon Emissions Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to meet its reporting obligations. The CBAM tool aims to establish a fair price for carbon emissions generated during the production of carbon-intensive goods imported into the EU.
For more information on CBAM, read this article: What is CBAM
I. To complete a CBAM request
Once you have clicked "complete" next to the corresponding request under "Pending Requests" in your company profile view (as described in the previous article), proceed as follows:
Answer the questions (depending on your answer, other questions will appear as required or not).
In the beginning of the request, you can click on "View requested products" to see how many and which products were requested.
- If you answer "Yes" to questions 1 and 2, questions 3, 4 and 5 appear as mandatory fields.
- Depending on your answers to questions 4 and 5, the questions 6, 7, 8 and 9 will appear as required or not.
If your answer to question 5 is "Yes my company can provide data", you need to answer question 6.
- To enter the relevant CBAM data, download the Excel template.
- Complete the template as described in the request.
- Please do not modify the template, in particular do not delete or add columns and do not delete any preset answers (s. screenshot, e.g., different spelling than the default answers causes an error message).
- For the quantity (Net mass in t), the direct and indirect emissions, as well as the electricity consumed and the corresponding emission factor (2. sheet "Products", columns F, G, K, L and M), the values entered can have a maximum of 5 characters before and 10 characters after the decimal point.
- For the "Share of emission default values in %" (2. sheet "Products", column J), only two decimals can be entered after the decimal point, and the value cannot exceed 20 %. If the value is 0 %, enter 0.01 %.
The import templates are pre-filled with the CN code, product name and article number specified by your customer when sending the request.
- Detailed information can also be found in the 3. spreadsheet "Guidance".
-
Upload the completed Excel template.
-
You will see a summary of your data in the question. If there are errors in the data (e.g., mandatory fields not filled), an error message will appear. In this case, correct the errors and re-upload the Excel file.
If your answer to question 5 is "No, my company is still trying to obtain data" you still need to provide the name of the installations in the template to download in question 7.
- Download the template and fill in the required installation data.
