Three-tier due diligence obligations within the EUDR

TABLE OF CONTENTS

I. Information requirements within the EUDR

In order to fulfill the due diligence obligations of the EUDR, the companies concerned must first request specific information, data and documents from their suppliers in accordance with Art. 9 of the EUDR. This data request process is carried out via the VERSO Supply Chain Hub using the EUDR request function and includes, for example:

  • The name, address and email address of all companies or persons who have supplied them with the relevant products
  • The country of production and the geolocation of all land on which the relevant raw materials that the product contains or under whose use it was produced as well as the time or period of production
  • Conclusive and verifiable information that the product is deforestation-free and conclusive and verifiable information that the product is produced in accordance with the legislation of the country of production

This data request process is carried out via the VERSO Supply Chain Hub using the EUDR request function.

II. Risk assessment within the EUDR

In the second step, affected companies must carry out a risk assessment in accordance with Article 10 of the EUDR based on the information collected. This process is also covered automatically via the VERSO Supply Chain Hub using various satellite data, indices and questionnaires and includes, for example:

  • Assessment of the deforestation risk for the relevant products.
  • Assessment of various legality risks in the country of production (e.g., indigenous rights, human rights, land use rights)
  • Assessment of supply chain risks (e.g., complexity of the supply chain, risk of commingling, trustworthiness of verification documents)

III. Risk mitigation within the EUDR

If the risk assessment shows that there is no more than a negligible risk, the company must take risk mitigation measures in the third step in accordance with Article 11 of the EUDR. Risk mitigation measures via the VERSO Supply Chain Hub include, for example:

  • Requesting additional, more in-depth risk information.
  • Requesting additional certifications or guidelines.
  • Training to support suppliers.
