In Scope 3, you can search for emission factors via an external database and transfer them directly to the Climate Hub.
To add your own activity in Scope 3, you can use the Search factor (activity based) button. This button allows you to query factors from an external database. The search for spend-based emission factors is described here.
Clicking on this button opens a new window in which you can search for keywords. The search results can be filtered according to the following criteria: country (Region), database (Source), year (Year) and unit (Unit Type). Emission factors can also be pre-grouped by categories (e.g. building materials) and sectors (e.g. buildings and infrastructure), making it easier to browse through factors without needing to know the exact factor name.
Once you have found a suitable factor, you can transfer it to the Climate Hub by clicking on the add factor button. All relevant information that is important for traceability is then displayed in the Climate Hub. There you also have the option of giving the activity its own name (kind).
By clicking the checkmark, the activity appears in the overview and the company can enter its consumption values in the input column and select the unit of the input value. The emissions are then calculated automatically. The initial assessment is displayed in the top right-hand corner.
Further information
Details on the external Climatiq database can be found on the official website.
There you will find, among other things, the description of data quality:
- Emission factors can be removed if they are deemed unusable or significantly erroneous. Such factors will no longer appear in the Climate Hub.
- Emission factors that have potential issues will be marked with a quality flag.
- Incomplete consideration of emissions
The CO2e value of an emission factor may not include all gases emitted during an activity. For example, only the CO2 emissions of an activity might be considered, while other greenhouse gases are not accounted for. However, the factor is provided because it or its source is considered important enough. More information can be found in the description of the respective factor or in the source referenced. - Climatiq has identified potential issues with the methodology of an emission factor. This could be due to the methodology deviating from generally accepted standards, or the source not providing clear information on the methodology used. Further details can be found in the description of the respective factor or in the source provided.
- Incomplete consideration of emissions
